Kata & Bunkai

Our kata are based on traditional forms from mainly Goju-Ryu based system with a subtle blend of Shukokai-ryu and Shito-ryu styles.

The main emphasis is on coordination and timing in strikes and movement while developing sound biomechanical principles to enable the development of technical expertise.

Application of the kata moves (bunkai) gives a insight into the fight sequence portrayed within each form. Groups of two or more participants will take turns to run through the kata sequence, with one participant using the pattern of moves against the remainder of the group. By practising in this way this helps develops spatial and combat distance awareness.
